Find your truth

"The Little Girl With No Voice" was written and illustrated by artist Frances Ackland-Snow in 2019 and tells the tale of a young girl who goes on a journey to find her true self and discover the gem which is hidden deep within all of us.

In 2020, with the global trauma of Covid-19, the book is more relevant than ever due to the negative impact of lockdown on the mental health of young people. This is definitely the time for the story to be shared with others.

Frances came across the ancient holloway on her daily lockdown walk with her son, Jacob. With the exposed roots of an oak tree perching above a hidden dell it was like stepping into the land of fairy tales, and was the perfect venue for telling the story of The Little Girl With No Voice.

Frances wished to bring the book to life in the form of a short film, which led her to connect with fellow creative mind, Nicola Schafer, a talented filmmaker and photographer. They shared the same vision for the film and were grateful that Watlington resident, the esteemed actor, Jeremy Irons, agreed to appear as the storyteller amongst the tree roots.

“A universal story about letting go of who we think we are, so that we can finally become who we were supposed to be. It's about finding our true self, the gem hidden deep within us all.”  - Frances Ackland-Snow
